Product Overview

The COX-2 antibody clone [SP21] is a rabbit monoclonal antibody that specifically detects cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an inducible enzyme encoded by the PTGS2 gene. COX-2 plays a key role in the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation, pain, and fever. Unlike its constitutively expressed isoform COX-1, COX-2 is typically absent in most normal tissues but is rapidly upregulated in response to inflammatory stimuli, cytokines, and growth factors.

The [SP21] clone is widely used in immunohistochemistry (IHC), especially on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues, to detect COX-2 expression in various human tissues and tumors. It is particularly valuable in cancer research and diagnostics, as COX-2 overexpression has been implicated in the development and progression of several cancers, including colorectal, breast, lung, and gastric carcinomas.
