CD11c functions as an adhesion receptor and belongs to the group of molecules associated with leukocyte function. According to reports, CD11c is present in hairy cell leukemia, while most other small B-cell lymphomas typically do not exhibit CD11c antigen. This suggests that using anti-CD11c in immunohistochemical staining of biopsies preserved in formalin could help in spotting hairy cell leukemia.
