c-Myc is a transcription factor that promotes cell development and proliferation. In a wide variety of hematopoeitic and solid tumors, c-Myc is amplified. Immunohistochemistry for c-Myc protein is used to identify the presence of a c-Myc translocation in various tumors, most frequently to aid in the diagnosis of Burkitt lymphoma.
