Vimentin (V9)

Vimentin belongs to the protein family known asintermediate filaments. One crucial component ofeukaryotic cells’ structure is their intermediate filaments. They comprise the cytoskeleton along with actinmicrofilaments and microtubules. When combined withkeratin, the expression of vimentin antibodies aids in thedifferentiation of melanomas from large-cell lymphomasand undifferentiated carcinomas. Vimentin causes a robustreaction in all Schwannomas and Melanomas. The 57 kDaintermediate filament is recognised by this antibody.Numerous mesenchymal cells, such as fibroblasts, endothelial cells, lymphocytes, and melanocytes, arelabelled by it. Since some tumours (such hepatoma andseminoma) do not contain vimentin, it is frequentlythought that an antibody’s non-reactivity is more beneficialthan its presence.
